Pavement structure rehabilitation and slope stabilization
A section of chemin J.-Alfred-Roy, which leads to the 4e and 5e Rangs, about 1.5 km north of the intersection with rue des Coopérants, was hit by a slope failure and ground subsidence that damaged the pavement structure and closed the road.
The study includes geotechnical investigations by drilling, a characterization, the design of a stabilizing berm and the preparation of the plans and technical specifications.
What the mandate includes
The steps of the mandate, from the first investigation to the final deliverable.
- Geotechnical borehole investigations
To identify the soils under the road and in the slope, and understand the landslide.
- Characterization
Analysis of the samples to describe the soils in place.
- Design of a stabilizing berm
Numerical model of the slope and design of the berm that stabilizes it.
- Plans and technical specifications
For the construction of the berm and the rehabilitation of the pavement structure.
How a berm stabilizes a slope
A berm is a mass of soil or rock placed at the toe of a slope. Its weight counteracts the movement of the soil and increases the stability of the slope.
The cross-section of the numerical model shows the selected solution: a new pavement structure, riprap armour and a filter at the toe of the slope.
