Stabilization of the slope along the rivière Noire
A slope along the rivière Noire experienced a rotational landslide in front of a home on rang Haut-de-la-Rivière Sud, in Sainte-Cécile-de-Milton.
The study includes geotechnical investigations by drilling, a hydraulic study, the design of the riprap stabilization, the preparation of the plans and technical specifications, construction supervision and the issuance of a certificate of compliance.
What the mandate includes
The steps of the mandate, from the first investigation to the final deliverable.
- Geotechnical borehole investigations
To identify the soils in the slope and understand the landslide.
- Hydraulic study
To take the flow of the river at the toe of the slope into account in the design.
- Design of the riprap stabilization
Numerical model of the stabilized slope and sizing of the riprap.
- Plans and technical specifications
The documents that govern the work.
- Construction supervision
On-site presence to check the placement of the riprap.
- Certificate of compliance
The final document confirming that the work complies with the design.
A rotational landslide along a river
In a rotational landslide, the soil slides along a curved failure surface: the mass rotates and leaves a spoon-shaped scarp at the top. Here, the scar is about 12 m wide.
Along a watercourse, erosion at the toe of the slope can weaken it. The riprap is meant to protect the toe and restore stability; the hydraulic study is used to design it for the river’s conditions. The mandate, which began in February 2025, is ongoing.
